The simple formula below is one fundamental formula that you should know.
Money = sum ( [Price Per Click] X [Number of Click] )

Logically speaking, if you want to make more money, you have to either increase the number of clicks or the price per click. If you do one or the other you can make more money from the program.
Make More AdSense Money By Boosting the Number Of Click

Increase the number of clicks on your ads is the most obvious strategy that will make more money for you. There are two ways you can boost the number of click:

1. Getting more traffic for your web site,
2. Make your ads more clickable and position them at the right place.

Getting traffic takes time and efforts. It‘s also a lot of hard work. There are several techniques that you can use to generate more traffic to your web site and hence make more AdSense money. These techniques are:

* Submit your web site to search engine and optimize your web site for search engine.

  * Increase link popularity by link exchange, article marketing, directory submission and press release.
* Paid Advertising through classified advertising, banner advertising or search engine advertising.
* Participate in forums/groups related to the content of your web site.
* Add comments to other blogs.

Making your ads more clickable is another way to increase your earnings. It is relatively easy to do because you can adjust your ad format almost immediately. You can do the following adjustments to your ad format to improve your click through rate (CTR):

* Make them more noticeable by positioning your AdSense ads on top of your AdSense page.
* Google states that the most effective ad formats are 336×280 larger rectangle, the 300×250 inline rectangle, and the 160×600 wide skyscraper. However you should choose the best ad format that works for your web site. This requires tracking and testing.
* Create a custom palette that best suites your web site. In general, you can follow the following settings:
o Border color : no border or background color of your website
o Background color : background color of your website
o Link color : color of your links
o URL color : black
o Text color : black or color of your main content

Make More AdSense Money by Targeting the Higher-Paying Keywords

You can create unique, relevant and quality contents that target at the higher-paying keywords to increase your average price per click (CPC). Higher CPC means that you can make more money even the CTR remains unchanged. You should find out which keyword variations for a topic pay more. Often the more specialized variations and phrases pay more than the generic terms.

You can increase your CPC by reducing the occurrence of lower-paying ads. You can use AdSense competitive filter mechanism to filter out the ads that you don’t want to be shown on your web site. It is suggested by others that showing fewer ads on a page will result in higher-paying ads displayed on your web site. A lot of publishers report that they make more Adsense money if they remove ads completely from pages with few or no clicks. Again you have to test whether this strategy works in favor of you or not.

As you can see, it involves a lot of hard work if you want to make extra Google AdSense money. You need to put in your time and effort to make it happen.

If you are one step will regret later

Along with the development of time, various methods and ways in fikirkan hold both the smallest things and that is very complex, so it serumit be any easier. The price-to-rent ratio links the cost of ownership with the cost of rental. This link is direct because possession of property can be obtained by either method. The cost of ownership encapsulates all of the financing terms and other variables associated with possession of real estate as does the cost of rental. Price-to-rent ratio fluctuates over time as changes in the cost of ownership and terms of financing makes financing amounts vary and house prices vary as well.

One of the major components of any projection using price-to-rent ratios is the projection of future rents. On a national level rents have been rising at a 3.6% rate from 1988 to 2007. This is 0.6% greater than the rate of inflation and 0.3% greater than the rate of wage growth. In Orange County, California, rents have been rising at the rate of 4.7% from 1983 to 2007. This is 1.7% greater than the rate of inflation and 1.3% greater than the rate of wage growth.

Any difference between the rate of rental growth and the rate of wage growth cannot be sustained forever; however, the differential on the national level is small, and it can be attributed to changing customer behavior as people demonstrate an increased willingness to spend more on housing related costs. The rate of rent growth over wage growth in Orange County is a bit more troubling. Orange County is second only to Honolulu, Hawaii as the most expensive place to rent in the United States and the continued growth of rents in excess of wages is not sustainable.

The unprecedented spike in the national price-to-rent ratio is clear evidence of a massive, national real estate bubble. As the ratio demonstrates, there was no increase in rents justifying market pricing. The only other explanation which would deny a market bubble would be a dramatic lowering of ownership costs through other means. Although lower interest rates did lower ownership costs somewhat, the resulting savings due to lower interest rates only explains about one-third to one-half of the increase in prices. The remainder is caused by the use of exotic financing and irrational exuberance.

Predictions based on the price-to-rent ratio are arguably the most robust because the ratio has been stable over long periods of time, and for good reason; the comparative cost of ownership to rental is a logical basis for valuation. If house prices return to their historic average of the 1988 to 2004 period of 181, then national prices will fall 27% peak-to-trough, bottom in 2011 and return to the peak in 2020.

The ratio of price-to-rent in Orange County, California, where the city of Irvine is located, has shown more variability than national figures. There was a coastal bubble taking off in the late 80s and collapsing in the early 1990s. The premise of prices reverting to fundamental valuations can be clearly seen in the changes in the price-to-rent ratio in Orange County. In the mid 1980s, the market was bottoming out from the first coastal residential real estate bubble associated with the inflationary times of the late 1970s. From 1983 to 1987, the price to rent ratio stabilized between 176 and 185, a range of about 6%. After the coastal bubble, prices stabilized in 1994 to 1996 in a range from 175 to 178.

Projections using the price-to-rent ratio assume prices will fall again to the range from 175 to 185 before stabilizing. The reason prices stabilize in this range is because it is here that the cost of ownership approximates the cost of rental, and Rent Savers buy real estate and form a support bottom. If house prices in Orange County return to their historic price-to-rent stability range, prices will fall 22% peak-to-trough, bottom in 2013, and return to the previous peak by 2019; however, if rental increases do not sustain their 4.7% historic rate, the bottom may be somewhat lower, and the return to the previous peak would be delayed.

Using the price-to-rent ratio is one of the most accurate predictors of the market bottom. The stability of the price-to-rent ratio is remarkable considering the variability in economic terms. The only times this ratio deviates from its tight range is when irrational exuberance takes over a market during a financial mania like the great housing bubble. by-Lawrence Robert.

4 “Must Know” Tips for Pricing Your Services

One of the worst moments in a business owner's life is that silent moment between when you quote your rate to a potential client and his response. True, that hardly a second goes by, but it can feel like an eternity.
“Will he hire me?”

“Did I go too high?”

And when he says “YOU'RE HIRED!”, a new set of doubts creep over you:

“Should I have gone higher?”

“Did I lowball the price just to get a client?”

You know the feeling. You've got the job, the project, the new client and it almost always turns out to be more work than you thought when you signed up for the task. Be sure that you know your worth and communicate it to the client up front.

1. Know your worth.

If you charge your clients hourly, how do you know what to charge them? Did you pick a number out of the air? What was your rationale?

For those who choose to bill hourly, I recommend the following approach to determining what you charge:

(a) Determine what you want your salary to be. How much will you take out of the company?

(b) Add to that any subcontractor expense that you may have. This is your “labor total”.

(c) List out and then add all your expenses: advertising, promotion, rent, self-employment tax, supplies, etc. This is your “non-labor expense total”.

(d) Add your labor total to your non-labor expense total.

(e) Add in any profit goal you may have for your business.

(f) Bullets (d) plus (e) equal your Total Required Revenue.

(g) Divide your “Total Required Revenue” by the number of BILLABLE hours for the year. Remember that you will not be billing 40 hours/week. The result will be the amount you need to charge per hour to make your salary goal.

If you bill hourly, take the time to complete the above exercise and, if necessary, increase your rates accordingly.

2. No haggling.

It can be hard when you have few clients or need more money, but whatever you do, do not haggle with your clients/prospective clients over your pricing.

You can haggle at a flea market. You can haggle for the price of a house. You can negotiate (a.k.a. “haggle”) for a corporate job salary. As a self-employed individual, you must not haggle over your pricing. To do so immediately lowers your perceived worth with that person and will set you up for a relationship of nitpicking over every nickel and dime.

3. Provide a “solution” and not a “service.”

Insure your clients understand the benefits they will receive from hiring you. You are not providing them a service; you are providing them a solution.

The difference being that people value solutions more than they do services. Whenever discussing price with a potential client, focus on the benefits, the “solutions” that she will receive as a result of hiring you.

Will she have more free time? Will her business see an increase in profits or clients? Know the benefits and speak to them!

4. Be prepared to say “Goodbye”.

Not everyone is going to accept your terms. Deal with it. They weren't meant to be your clients anyway and would have just taken up the time that you could use for a better qualified client. Save your time and energy for those who recognize your worth - you'll both be happier and more productive.

Pricing your services is one of the most emotional things you'll do as a business owner. Be sure to take the time to review the project at hand before just blurting out a price - doing so will save you a lot of time and frustration down the road.

For other uses, see The Business (disambiguation).

A business (also called a firm or an enterprise) is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers.

A business needs a market. A consumer is an essential part of a business. Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, most being privately owned and formed to earn profit to increase the wealth of owners. The owners and operators of a business have as one of their main objectives the receipt or generation of a financial return in exchange for work and acceptance of risk. Notable exceptions include cooperative businesses and state-owned enterprises. Socialistic systems involve either government, public, or worker ownership of most sizable businesses.

The etymology of "business" relates to the state of being busy either as an individual or society as a whole, doing commercially viable and profitable work. The term "business" has at least three usages, depending on the scope — the singular usage (above) to mean a particular company or corporation, the generalized usage to refer to a particular market sector, such as "the music business" and compound forms such as agribusiness, or the broadest meaning to include all activity by the community of suppliers of goods and services. However, the exact definition of business, like much else in the philosophy of business, is a matter of debate.

Business Studies, the study of the management of individuals to maintain collective productivity in order to accomplish particular creative and productive goals (usually to generate profit), is taught as an academic subject in many schools.

Toyota slashes profit forecast amid global slump

Toyota slashed its profit forecast Monday for the fiscal year to barely breaking even at 50 billion yen ($555 million) as Japan's top automaker gets hammered by plunging global demand and a surging yen.

That's a tiny fraction of its 1.7 trillion yen net profit from the previous fiscal year through March 2008.

"The change that has hit the world economy is of a critical scale that comes once in a hundred years," President Katsuaki Watanabe said at the company's Nagoya office. The drop in vehicle sales over the last month was "far faster, wider and deeper than expected."

Sinking sales in the U.S. in the wake of the financial crisis have dealt a heavy blow to Japanese automakers. But Watanabe said that emerging markets, which had held up in the beginning, were also slowing down now.

The surging yen, which erodes overseas earnings, has battered profits. The dollar has fallen to 13-year lows of about 90 yen recently.

Toyota Motor Corp. - which makes the popular Camry sedan and Prius gas-electric hybrid - now expects to sell 8.96 million vehicles around the world this calendar year, down 4 percent from the it sold last year, Watanabe told reporters.

Unlike previous years, he gave no goal for 2009.

In July, Toyota lowered its global vehicle sales target for 2008 to 9.5 million from the initial 9.85 million. Last year, it sold 9.37 million vehicles around the world.

Toyota also lowered its sales forecast for the fiscal year through March to 21.5 trillion yen ($239 billion), down about 18 percent from its earlier projection at 23 trillion yen ($256 billion).

Grabbing attention in recent years has been whether Toyota would dethrone Detroit-based General Motors Corp. as the world's No. 1 in annual vehicles sales.

But the mood was pure gloom at the president's annual year-end event.

Under a previous revision, Toyota had been forecasting a 550 billion yen ($6.1 billion) profit for the fiscal year through March, less than a third of what it racked up the previous fiscal year and drastically lower than its initial projection of 1.25 trillion yen ($13.9 billion) profit.

Toyota's U.S. vehicles sales plunged by a third on year in November, when overall sales fell to their lowest level in more than 26 years. And there is little hope for a quick recovery as consumers hold back big purchases amid a serious downturn.

<img width='1' Industry (Kadin) has requested the government to postpone a deadline to improve tax filing and undertake tax registration until March next year as businessmen are busier than ever coping with the impact of the global economic slowdown.

Kadin chairman Mohamad Suleman Hidayat said Sunday businesses were expecting the deadline to be extended because the global economic downturn had unexpectedly pushed most businessmen to focus on drawing up counter-measures.

"We have asked the government to delay the deadline for the sunset policy for another three months because of the (economic) crisis," Hidayat told reporters on the sidelines of a Kadin national meeting.

"All businesses are currently thinking of how to handle their own companies (amidst the crisis)."

As a result of a new tax law on general procedure late last year, the government has issued rules requiring all taxpayers to honestly report their taxes and comply with the existing regulations.

Under the new policy, often referred to as a "sunset policy", the government has also given potential taxpayers time to get a tax registration number and start to comply with the regulations.

The government has given one year in which it has waived administrative penalties for previous non-compliance in exchange for accurate tax reporting and registration before starting to impose stiffer sanctions on violators next year.

Taxpayers money is the largest single source of income to the state budget, accounting for about 70 percent of state budget revenue.

According to the directorate general of taxation, Indonesia only has about 6 million taxpayers in a population of 230 million people.

Hidayat argued it was difficult to comply with the sunset policy as it involved lengthy procedures to complete all the filings, including balance sheets.

He suggested the government should issue a regulation-in-lieu-of-law to allow a postponement of the sunset policy.

In response to Kadin's request, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the government would study how to make that possible.

"Well basically it's impossible for us to extend the registration period as it's already been stipulated in the law," she said.

"What is possible is an administrative loophole that may allow such treatment, and I'll try to look into that," she added.

Mulyani said the sunset policy had been a success as there were around 200,000 requests for tax file number recorded every day at the moment, as the present deadline expired at the end of the year.

The directorate general of taxation has planned stiff measures for those having no tax registration once the sunset period is over, including a new plan to raise overseas travel tax by more than double for those without tax registration numbers.

<img width='1' Venture capital firms are telling their clients to batten down the hatches because free money is gone. Share prices for the biggest tech companies have plummeted over the past year. Per TechCrunch, dozens of companies have announced plans to let go of more than 24,000 workers, and no one doubts more cuts are coming soon. Even Google's fabled free-food privileges are being cut back.

The worst-hit companies are the smallest—the startups that are the star players in the Valley's recurring tragedy of flameout and rebirth. With the market down and the financial sector in distress, startups that launched with only the haziest plans for making money now have nowhere to go. Young entrepreneurs flock to Silicon Valley to win billion-dollar IPOs or to sell out to Google or Microsoft for huge sums, but neither option is feasible anymore. Now startups have to think of other ways to make money. The bad news is that the Web economy is dominated by advertising dollars, and advertising often suffers during a recession. So what to do? In the absence of ads, an IPO market, venture capital funding, and guaranteed acquisition, how can startups make any money?

Daniel Gross asked if the social-networking boom is a repeat of the 1990s dot-com bubble. Reihan Salam laid out the Facebook commandments: how to deal with unwanted friend requests, the ethics of de-friending, and other etiquette predicaments. Christopher Beam explained how Facebook could crush MySpace, Yahoo, and Google. Emily Yoffe described her meteoric rise from a social-networking newbie to a Facebook superstar.

Allow me to propose something crazy. Tech companies should start charging people to use their services. No, seriously. Let's take the biggest example of a Web site that has no clear path to profitability: Facebook. The social network attracts more than 100 million "active users" around the world, but as of now—as even its founder Mark Zuckerberg admits—it's still looking for a "business model" (that is, a way to make tons more money than it spends).

But let me say that again: 100 million people use Facebook regularly. Judging from some of the folks in my social network, a sizable minority of Facebook users have hundreds of "friends" and check in to the site multiple times a day—call them superactive users. Let's imagine that Facebook became a tiered service. A free plan would limit you to 200 friends, one status update per day, or some other non-Draconian combination of restrictions. But for $5 a month, the limits would be lifted. Certainly, many users would balk; tens of thousands would join Facebook groups to protest the new pay model. Let's assume that 95 percent of users will refuse to pay a dime. That still leaves 5 percent, or 5 million people, to pay $60 a year. That's $300 million in the bank.

I confess that I didn't come up with the idea for this radical business model on my own. I stole it from David Heinemeier Hansson, a developer at the innovative Web software company 37signals, a firm that has long proselytized the advantages of asking people to pay for stuff. The firm makes a tidy sum by charging small businesses—companies in what it calls the Fortune 5 Million—$50 or $100 a month to use its suite of excellent project-management and collaboration apps.

"We've found out that having a price is really cool for making profits," Hansson pointed out last spring in an entertaining presentation called "The Secret to Making Money Online." "You have customers, they pay you money for the product or service, and you get profits! It's almost too simple to work." Of course, 37signals didn't come up with this idea on its own, either: "I've heard that over time—hundreds of years actually—this has been how most businesses have made their money. But somehow that notion got lost in the Web world."

But wait a minute, you might be thinking. That can't really work—perhaps Facebook can make a few hundred million dollars a year by charging people to use its site, but Facebook's investors have valued the company at $15 billion. Facebook harbors Google-like aspirations of changing every facet of society—by mapping our social relationships, it aims to alter how we make friends, how we do business, how we understand the world around us. That sounds like a very grand plan, a plan that deserves to make billions—not just a few hundred million.

Fedora 10 Released With New Feature

Fedora community developers have announced officially from the Fedora 10, a new version of the open source Linux distributions that popular.

Launching this is a step forward from Fedora and is the introduction of new technology that brings the power and usability to the desktop user experience. Ms. Amero was a relief teacher in Connecticut, who found herself convicted on pornography charges when the classroom computer was infected by spyware.

You may not be a teacher, you may not live in Connecticut, and you may not be interested in pornography. But her experience is one we could all learn from.

The case dates back to Oct. 19, 2004, when Ms. Amero was substituting for a seventh-grade language class at Kelly Middle School in Norwich, Connecticut. Pupils, being kids, would lark around on the teacher's computer when the regular teacher was out of the room; when Ms. Amero took charge of the class, the computer started showing pornographic images.

Now we're not talking a full-on peep show for the class here. When Ms. Amero realized what was going on she tried to block students from seeing what was on the screen. She tried to get help, but none came.

But that didn't stop her being convicted, more than two years later, on four counts of risk of injury to a minor, or impairing the morals of a child.

The original case was later thrown out, but Ms. Amero, on the advice of her lawyers, has tried to end the nightmare by admitting on Nov. 22 to one misdemeanor charge and surrendering her state teaching license. She's also been hospitalized for stress and heart problems.

Of course, this case should never have come to trial. And most of you don't live in places where law enforcement officials are so clueless about how computers work.

But it does carry some important lessons.

First off, what is spyware? Spyware is software that installs itself on your computer without you necessarily knowing about it. It could be downloaded simply by visiting a website.

Sometimes it's deliberately downloaded -- usually by young people who don't know better. Sometimes it comes hidden inside legitimate software. Even reputable outfits like Yahoo, Apple, Microsoft and Google try to "push" their software in underhanded ways.

So what does this stuff do? Well, it can be relatively harmless. Some spyware -- we prefer the term "malware", as it includes all forms of software that don't have your interests at heart -- will try to change your browser's homepage. Others, like the ones Ms. Amero found herself besieged by, will pop up windows pushing unwelcome products at you.

At the far end of the spectrum are programs which will report back on your activities -- your passwords, your browsing habits -- to bad people with bad intentions.

Bottom line: Spyware is bad for your computer, and, possibly, bad for your career.

Ms. Amero appears to have been let down by the school. The computer had a program installed on it that was designed to filter out trash. But the license had not been renewed, so the filter had not been updated.

The porn may have got through anyway. No filter is ever going to keep the bad guys out. But if you're going to install software like that you really need to make sure it's updated.

I've seen enough of this to know how easy it is to get infected by this stuff, and how hard it is to get it off.

The sad thing is that the infections usually come from kids messing around on the family computer, and so it's them who get to see the bad stuff. Parents then freak out, blame the kids and then ban them from the computer.

So, adults -- parents, teachers -- need to understand this kind of thing better. Here's how (thanks to Mark Trudinger of child-friendly search engine Kindernet.com for contributions):

First, install antivirus software, make sure a firewall is installed, and then something called Windows Defender, which will keep an eye on stuff. I also use something called WinPatrol (www.winpatrol.com) to monitor what programs try to mess around with my computer behind my back.

Second, limit which people can download and install on the computer. Windows XP lets you set up different accounts for different users; kids should not have accounts which allow them to install programs. Vista users will find parental controls built in. Play around with them until you're happy.

Lastly, most browsers allow you to stop pop-ups. This should keep your desktop clean.

If you do think you're infected, run antivirus software, run the Windows Defender software, and, if you're still worried, call for help. If you're a teacher, turn off the computer monitor, or remove it from the classroom. If you're not allowed to do that, stick paper over it.

There's a bigger point here. I don't want to sound unsympathetic to Ms. Amero. She describes herself as a "computer neophyte" -- not someone who really knows what's going on when it comes to computers. This used to be OK. But I don't think it is anymore.

Most of us encounter computers at home, at work, at play. Many of us rely on them for our livelihoods. Ms. Amero did; she was a teacher, and no teacher nowadays can avoid computers.

As parents, too, we need to understand this stuff. Not all of it, but enough to protect ourselves and the kids we're responsible for.

No longer can we throw up our hands and say "I don't know how to work this thing, so I'm not responsible".

If nothing else, we need to know enough to be able to scream "help!" until a techie guy comes running.

We may not end up convicted of corrupting minors if we don't. But if Ms. Amero's case is anything to go by, the days of the "computer neophyte defense" are over.

VIRAL LINKING

I've got this Viral Linking Tag from my friend tridabiz and since i'm new on this kind of virus then i navigate my internet browser to Jenny Talks' blog. Ranging from expensive and scarce to rather available and inexpensive, important cents take a number of forms, making the top 10 an interesting and diverse group.

The cent was a high priority for the U.S. Mint from its start, with the first cents being minted for circulation in 1793, the year after the Mint opened. Here's my list of the 10 best that have been produced since then.

1. The design of the 1793 Flowing Hair chain cent is credited to Henry Voight. It shows Liberty facing left, with a chain reverse of 15 links-one for each state in the Union. An estimated 5,000 to 10,000 were minted with an abbreviated inscription, "UNITED STATES OF AMERI." The remainder of this 36,103-mintage coin carried "AMERICA."

No sooner had the first cents appeared than the critics came out in force. Particularly offensive to some were the chains. The idea was to show unity, but to some the chain represented captivity. The 1793 Flowing Hair chain cent is extremely popular today. It is usually found well-worn. The demand is always far in excess of the supply, which means even a Good-4 commands a $7,750 price tag.

2. Next is the 1856 Flying Eagle cent. In fact, the 1856 Flying Eagle cent is technically a pattern, as the Flying Eagle cent was not even authorized until 1857.

The 1856 Flying Eagle cent was basically a test of a new, smaller cent that would not have an intrinsic value anywhere near its face value. Therefore, it was a bold departure from prior practice. The first 1,000 were given out to congressmen and others in influence in an attempt to win its approval.

It was coined for circulation into 1858, and collectors soon realized the 1856 was far tougher than the 1857 or the 1858. The Mint at the time was a very different sort of place and collectors wanting an 1856 Flying Eagle cent simply went to the Mint and asked for one. The Mint cheerfully provided the coins. We cannot be sure of the initial mintage, but most put it at somewhere between 1,500 and 3,500.

Over the years the 1856 has not been dismissed as a pattern. From the start it was seen as a prized addition to a cent collection. As such, the coins were selling for $1 each as early 1859.

The 1856 was hoarded by the wealthy collectors of the late 1800s and early 1900s, with famous hoards in some cases topping 500 examples. The significance of those hoards can be seen in today's list price of $6,250 for an 1856 in G-4. The 1856 ranks as a truly significant coin not only because it is scarce but also because it opened the door to the idea of a small cent.

3. In 1859 an entirely new cent appeared with James B. Longacre's Indian Head obverse. The 1859 was important as a one-year transitional piece. The following year the design on the reverse was changed to show an oak wreath and a small shield.

Fortunately, despite only being produced for one year, the 1859 had a high mintage of 36,400,000. It is available today at $12.50 in G-4, $215 in Mint State-60, and $3,200 in MS-65.

4. The 1877 Indian Head cent is next on my list. It had a mintage of 852,500 and was quickly recognized as being scarce. It remains tough today, listing at $590 in G-4, $2,850 in MS-60, and $8,750 in MS-65.

5. The 1908-S Indian Head cent is important for a very simple reason. It was the first cent to be produced at any facility other than Philadelphia. Until a couple years earlier, there had been a stipulation in the law that coins containing no gold or silver could only be produced at Philadelphia. That somewhat unusual idea had been the result of Western mining interests who wanted nothing to do with coins not containing the metals they were mining. That feeling was especially strong during the 1870s, when the price of silver was declining.

Finally, in the early 1900s, the law was changed, as lower denominations were needed even in the West, and having them shipped from Philadelphia when there were mints in San Francisco and Denver was ridiculous.

The 1908-S was the first cent to be produced in San Francisco, with Denver joining in with cent production starting in 1911.

It is clear the 1908-S was noticed as it was saved in some numbers, making it available today at just $60 in G-4, $275 in MS-60, and $650 in MS-65. The price of a G-4 is unusually close to the MS-60 simply because the 1908-S was a bigger deal than we might think today and that meant significant saving at the time it was released.

6. The 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln cent is also a coin of great importance. Prior to the 1909 V.D.B. no circulating coin of the United States had depicted a famous American. Although Washington had already appeared on the 1900 Lafayette commemorative silver dollar, the idea of not using depictions of real Americans on circulating coins dated from his time. He had joined the House of Representatives in blocking the use of his image on coins.

This held until Teddy Roosevelt came along with the idea that the centennial of Lincoln's birth should be noted on a circulating coin. The artist selected by Roosevelt, Victor D. Brenner, contributed to the fame of the first Lincoln cent by having his initials on the reverse.

Officials had actually approved that idea, but when they saw the first Lincoln cent they changed their minds and the V.D.B. was ordered removed. Before the initials could be removed, 27,995,000 of the new 1909 V.D.B. cents had been produced at Philadelphia, which was enough to make them available today at just $9.50 for an MS-60 and $100 for an MS-65.

The price indicates the heavy saving. Like the 1908-S, the 1909 V.D.B. was much more important than we might think. Many opposed the idea of using famous Americans on the circulating coins, but eventually the nation's coinage would become literally a portrait gallery of historic figures. That all started with the 1909 Lincoln cent.

7. The 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln cent can probably be best described as the 1877 of the following century. What is special about the 1909-S V.D.B. is that it had a mintage of just 484,000 before the order came down to remove the initials. That made it instantly a valuable and popular cent.

The 1909-S V.D.B. was readily saved as can be seen in the numbers of examples available today in grades like About Uncirculated-50 and up. Even so, generation after generation of collectors have tried to find a 1909-S V.D.B. in circulation, making it the most desired coin by collectors for years. The 1909-S V.D.B. lists for $550 in G-4, $1,300 in MS-60, and $6,750 in MS-65.

8. The cents of 1943 are special as they are really souvenirs of World War II. In an attempt to conserve copper for the war effort, it was decided that an alternative alloy for the cent was needed and that turned out to be zinc-coated steel.

The new steel cents, which were subject to rusting, were unpopular with the public. The 1943 zinc-coated steel cents would be produced for just one year, with cents of the next couple years being made from recycled shell cases.

The 1943 zinc-coated steel cents, though readily available at low prices, are popular today because of their link to the war. A set of three MS-65 examples from Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver can be had for around $25.

9. The numismatic world was surprised back in 1955 by the discovery that some 1955 cents were doubled on the obverse. The 1955 doubled-die cent was a national sensation and it has kept its popularity. Prices today range from $1,350 in Extremely Fine-40 to $34,500 in MS-65.

10. The final coin on my list of most important cents is the one everyone takes for granted and that is the 1959 Lincoln cent with the Memorial reverse. It is readily available, but the real story is not its price, but its creation to mark the 50th anniversary of the Lincoln cent.

Under the law, once a coin has been in circulation for 25 years the Treasury Department can order a change without consulting Congress. The Lincoln Memorial reverse was the last time a Treasury secretary changed a design using that power, which makes it an important coin.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 2009, when this design reaches its half century anniversary. From the historic to the popular, from the scarce to the common, the most important cents of the United States are a fascinating group. A few others could probably be added to such a list but in every case the 10 most important cents have excellent reasons for standing out in what has now been more than two centuries of very interesting cents.

Banks, investment firms borrow less from Fed

WASHINGTON – Banks and investment firms reduced borrowing from the Federal Reserve's emergency lending program over the past week, although demand for the loans remains elevated.

The Fed's report, released Thursday, shows commercial banks averaged $95.4 billion in daily borrowing over the past week. That was down from nearly $110 billion in average daily borrowing logged over the week ended Nov. 5.

For the week ending Wednesday, investment firms drew $64.9 billion. That compared with $77 billion in the previous week. This category was recently broadened to include any loans that were made to the U.S. and London-based broker-dealer subsidiaries of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.

The Fed report also showed that its net holdings of "commercial paper" came to $257.3 billion on Wednesday, up from $243.3 billion last week. Under the first of its kind program started Oct. 27, the Fed is buying mounds of the crucial short-term debt that companies use to pay everyday expenses. The Fed has said about $1.3 trillion worth of commercial paper would qualify.

Squeezed banks and investment firms are borrowing from the Fed because they can't get money elsewhere. Investors have cut them off, moving their money into safer Treasury securities. Financial institutions are hoarding whatever cash they have, rather than lend it to each other or customers. The lockup in lending has contributed to a sharp slowing in the overall economy.

Investment houses in March were given similar, emergency-loan privileges as commercial banks after a run on Bear Stearns pushed what was the nation's fifth-largest investment bank to the brink of bankruptcy.

The identities of commercial banks and investment houses that borrow are not released. Commercial banks and investment companies now pay 1.25 percent in interest for the emergency loans.

Since the Bear Stearns debacle in March, the Fed has taken a series of unprecedented steps to get lending — the economy's oxygen — flowing more freely again. The central bank has repeatedly tapped its Depression-era authority to be a lender of last resort not only to financial institutions, but also to other types of companies.

Critics worry the Fed's actions could put billions of taxpayers' dollars at risk.

Ethernet Vs SONET Bandwidth Solution... Which Makes More Sense?

For high bandwidth - high capacity network infrastructures today .... you can look toward Ethernet or SONET based solutions. But which makes more sense for YOU.

Since you're not likely to be able to run Ethernet to meet your actual WAN requirements, what you are effectively doing is outsourcing the edge of your network to your carrier.

Your carrier will run SONET services to an edge device, manage that device, and hand you an Ethernet connection.

As always, there are advantages and disadvantages with each. With the Ethernet solution, you get simplicity, and have lower capital equipment costs on your side, but you're probably, in effect, leasing that equipment the carrier uses at your site as part of your monthly recurring cost (MRC). You're also "outsourcing" the operation of the WAN side of the hand-off, which might work well for you of your staff is generally more experienced with LAN technologies, and you're carrier is competent in handling this responsibility for you.

If you go the SONET route, you'll be buying interfaces for your routers, and these expenses can start to add up. On the other hand, you've got more control, or at least more say, in what's being delivered to you. If you need ring and equipment diversity, and want to have the egress side of your rings be at diverse locations, it's *your* circuit. If you want to know that the protect channel is assigned to your needs, your equipment is on it and you have that visibility. If you have an Ethernet interface being dropped off, you might have less visibility into what lies beyond, and have less of an argument for being involved in how your carrier is engineering what lies past that edge device.

In more complex environments, there may be other concerns as well. If you're running POS into your routers, you have the ability to run a layer two service on top of this, and virtualize that OCx circuit. A collegue put OCx into an MPLS environment where it became desirable to operate more than one MPLS VRF, and building two FR PVCs on top of the POS, one to each VRF, was a simple solution. If he had the same need with a carrier-provided Ethernet edge device, he'd have likely needed to pay another monthly charge for another Ethernet port to accomplish the same thing.

Either technology may be the right choice .... depending on where you want the costs and the design and operational responsibilities to fall.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://private-kenangan.blogspot.com/2008/11/ethernet-vs-sonet-bandwidth-solution.html' title='Ethernet Vs SONET Bandwidth Solution... It’s important to have cash available in a recession, even if that ends up being a cash advance from a payday lender. For people in the United States, cash is based on the dollar and is used to compare different values of currency around the world, including Asia’s yuan. If the yuan increases, when compared to the dollar, then China will have the ability to buy more U.S. goods by having increased spending power.

Of course, if the yuan becomes stronger versus the dollar that also means the dollar has weakened. This will make it even more important for U.S. citizens to have a way to access cash when needed as their buying power outside the U.S. can be less, making imported products and travel to other countries more expensive in comparison.

All of these scenarios are said to be good for the United States regardless. Although some experts believe that Asia will not have enough consumers to offset the drop in consumption in America. If they do increase as a world power and begin to buy more American goods, then the stronger yuan benefits Americans, even as the dollar declines. If the dollar declines, internally American-made goods look more attractive to people living in the United States and this can spur more commerce for homegrown goods.

The big mystery isn’t whether Asia will be a major player; it is how much influence they will have as a global player. For that reason, you can prepare for either a prolonged recession or a shorter one, by having some cash on hand. However, many experts are optimistic that Asia will play a leading role in pulling the world out of an economic downturn, including the United States.

The Best Way to Approach New Clients

As a business owner you know the kinds of clients you want. Why not go one step further and make a list of actual companies you would like to have as clients.

Then, get clear about who it is you want to contact within each company. What position does the person hold? Is it the owner? Is it someone in HR? Is it the sales manager?

Once you have your list, ask people in your network if they know the person who holds the position in the companies you have identified. If so, ask if they would be willing to introduce you via e-mail or a phone call.

If you aren't able to find someone who can introduce you, you can still approach companies without cold calling. Begin by finding out the names of the people you want to contact (Google or call).

Then send them valuable information you have created along with a personal letter. Be sure to send it in the mail (snail mail).

Your valuable give away can not be a brochure that is information all about your business and what you do. It is hugely important that you send content that is practical and informative for the person receiving it.

Think about things like: tips, trends, research, pitfalls to avoid, etc. It can be a few pages or many; the key is that it must be relevant and applicable to the person and their business.

(SIDENOTE: Be sure to leverage your valuable give away, see how here: http://tinyurl.com/6ojtwl)

In the letter you can say that you are sharing this information because you believe the person may find it valuable. Also state that you will call next week (you can include a date and time if you want) to find out if the person found what you sent is useful.

So when you call as promised, it's not a cold call because the person has received valuable information from you (for free). This makes it a warm call. You simply want to find out if it was of interest for the person.

It is important that you have a marketing sequence in place so when a potential client is interested; you know what the next step will be. Is it a proposal? Is it a consult? Is it a scheduled phone call?

If there is interest, but not a need right now, there are still several opportunities. First, ask people if they would like you to check back with them in a certain time frame. If yes, put it in your calendar and do it.

Second, if you have a newsletter with valuable information, you can ask people if they'd like to receive it.

Third, if they are not interested but you feel a positive connection, you can ask if they know one (yes only one) person who may need what you are offering.

Why only one? Because if you ask people if they know ‘anyone' they will draw a blank. But, if you ask for just one person, it's much easier to think of someone.

Please remember to thank everyone who takes the time to talk with you or give you referrals. Yes, even the people who are not interested in what your business offers. One of the best ways to do this is to send a thank you note in the mail.

Are you starting to see how sharing valuable information and connecting with potential clients can be relaxed and rewarding? Create your give away, share it, and make a warm call to discover the possibilities.

Private Prctice Cunseling Svcs

Business of counseling: Planning and establishing a private practice, The from Counseling and Human Development in Health provided free by Find Articles. / business of counseling: Planning and establishing a private practice, The Counseling and Human DeOn TechRepublic: BNET Business Network: Find Articles in: Featured Download This chapter describes ten helpful actions and behaviors that will bring you... This consideration might be motivated by many factors encompassing career and personal issues alike. Mid-career practitioners might desire to have more autonomy and input into their counseling practice. Counselor educators might choose to combine their faculty position with a part-time private practice. Beginning practitioners might seek out private-practice settings as their first place of employment. IT departments can spend significant resources implementing and supporting complex business applications from customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) to data warehouse and business intelligence (BI), but all too often the data in these systems is inaccurate, incomplete and lacks consistency. One of the reasons data quality has been difficult to mitigate, is that it has been left solely in the hands of IT departments. At Informatica we take the view that data quality is a strategic issue that should be driven by senior management and information consumers in co-operation with the IT department. Data quality should not be the sole preserve of IT.

The cost of poor data quality

Data quality, or information quality, is a growing concern for organizations more and more reliant on technology. Information intensive applications such as BI, ERP and CRM deliver value only if the data they use is reliable, complete and accurate. Process automation means that data is the foundation of all critical business operations, where poor data quality can lead to breakdowns in the supply chain and poor business decisions. At the same time in this era of higher public sensitivity customers have come to expect better service, misspelling a name or not knowing the status of an order can quickly alienate hard won customers.

There are endless examples of how defective data can hamper the performance of business applications and cost organizations money. Every year firms spend millions of pounds/dollars/euro on wasted direct marketing effort by mailing expensive marketing materials to undeliverable and duplicate addresses. Poor quality data also impedes customer segmentation and analysis – according to one analyst firm three-quarters of financial services providers make business decisions based on sub optimal data.

Implementing an enterprise application without addressing data quality is a waste of time and resources. If data quality is not dealt with, potential problems such as redundant data, incorrect mailing addresses, and unnecessary printing, postage and staffing costs, and ultimately bad corporate decisions based on bad data, can lead to a slow but steady erosion of an organization's credibility among customers, suppliers and staff. Because CRM, ERP and BI are central to an organization’s ability to do business everyone who uses the systems, from the production staff, sales force and call center personnel, to executive-level professionals and marketing teams, relies on the quality of the data they contain. If they have reason to lack confidence in the currency and quality of the information, the application will fall into disuse and ultimately fail to deliver value to the business.

What is Data Quality?

Good data quality is defined in a number of different ways, but ultimately it is about the data meeting the needs of the information consumer. For example, a marketing manager can still execute a marketing campaign even if 20 per cent of the data he/she uses contains duplicate entries or in-complete address information. The campaign may be costly, inefficient and wasteful of resources, but it is unlikely to fail outright. On the other hand, a bank calculating risk exposures for Basel II compliance or an insurance company implementing Solvency II could not work with data of such poor quality.

The marketing manager may have different data needs than the chief risk officer at a bank or policy-underwriting department in the insurance company, but at the same time all will benefit significantly from improved levels of data quality. In a recent article on data quality published in The Data Warehousing Institute’s journal What Works in Data Integration, Neil Hershaw, Information management officer at M&S Money in the UK wrote, “there was obviously the need to satisfy the data quality elements of Basel II, but also taking this enhanced overall approach to data management would give us greater confidence in our activities to create sales and therefore help drive competitive advantage in the market.”

Causes of poor data quality

Data quality problems can occur in many different ways. The most common include:

* Poor data handling procedures and processes
* Failure to adhere to data entry and maintenance procedures
* Errors in the migration process from one system to another
* External and third-party data that may not fit with your company data standards or may otherwise be of dubious quality
* Using data collected for one specific application in other systems and business processes

Experience in the United States Department of Defense for example revealed some time ago that a majority of data errors can be attributed to process problems. Data quality problems often stem from system deficiencies rooted in poorly documented modifications, incomplete user training and user manuals, or systems and data that have been extended beyond their original intent.

This final point is a significant problem in today's business environment where organizations are keen to gain competitive advantage from their information resources. Businesses are using more data from more sources in more systems. New IT initiatives often mean that data collected for one purpose such as billing or manufacturing materials management is being used in other applications such as Business Intelligence, Supply Chain Management, Risk Management and Customer Relationship Management. But data collected for use in operational systems may not be suitable for these more data intensive activities. At the same time, fragmented and distributed IT systems can lead to data duplication, lack of conformity across systems and other discrepancies.

Data quality metrics and KPI

Defining data quality and then reporting and monitoring progress are necessary to ensure that best practice is embedded within the organization culture. By measuring and tracking how data quality problems arise, you can provide the information needed to change business processes and work practices. Producing and publishing regular data quality reports and scorecards also provides the basis for incentivizing managers and data collectors to provide data that really meets the needs of the organization.

Informatica uses six key dimensions to define and measure good data quality: These are completeness, conformity, consistency, accuracy, duplication and integrity.

These six dimensions cover a multitude of sins that we most commonly associate with poor quality data: data entry errors, misapplied business rules, duplicate records, and missing or incorrect data values. Duplication of data is probably one of the most serious and persistent problems. Duplicate records in a data warehouse for example make it difficult to analyze customer habits and to properly segment customers in terms of market or down to a level of household or subsidiary. Inaccurate data results in poor targeting, budgeting, staffing, unreliable financial projections and so on.

Data quality for life

To date most organizations that have tackled the data quality issue have tended to implement tactical solutions to improve quality within a single department or within a single business process. While this approach may mitigate the problem for part of the organization in the short term, such limited initiatives generally fail to achieve long-term data quality improvement on a broad scale.

Like a pet, data quality is not just for the holidays – it’s for life. It is not an exercise that can be completed once and then forgotten about. The problem with data is that its quality quickly degenerates over time. According to PricewaterhouseCoopers two per cent of records in a CRM system could become obsolete in just one month as customers move, divorce, marry or die. Added to this defective data entry and collection processes lead to incorrect information and duplicate entries contaminating databases on an ongoing basis.

So how does an organization tackle the problem of poor quality data, and who should take responsibility for data quality within the organization? The answer is to clean up the data already in use; stop low quality data from getting into systems; and remember that data quality levels degrade once the information is collected, so data quality is a never-ending mission. Solving the data quality issue requires an enterprise-wide approach that includes a combination of technology and organizational, cultural, and process change.

This can be achieved on a phased basis, but for data quality improvement to become a reality, from which your organization reaps dramatic benefits, a long-term business-led view must be taken. Why business-led? Because there is an increasing recognition within the data quality market that there has historically been too much of a focus on IT data quality requirements such as structure and not enough on those of the business, which is all about content. Data quality should not be the sole preserve of IT. IT-only data quality efforts tend to be ineffective. Data quality is a strategic issue that should be driven by senior management and business information consumers in co-operation with the IT departments.

No organization can be expected to solve all its data quality problems in one go. Ensuring that accurate, consistent and timely data is delivered to the CRM system requires a long-term a step-by-step data quality management program that eventually encompasses all company data. Data quality improvement is not just about fixing data. It involves process and cultural change within your organization to ensure that high standards are maintained and like any quality initiative it is important to put programs in place for continuous improvement.

Reporting and monitoring for example, is one of the key tools necessary to ensure that data quality is embedded within the organization culture. By measuring and tracking how data quality problems arise, you can provide the information needed to change business processes and work practices. Producing and publishing regular data quality reports and scorecards also provides the basis for incentivizing managers and data collectors to provide data that really meets the needs of the organization.

The true value of data

Despite nearly 40 years of information technology advances it is only now that some organizations are realizing the true value of their corporate data. Increasing reliance on automated business processes, more stringent regulation and the ever-increasing pitch of competition is driving organizations to focus on the data they use to run their business as they strive to improve customer service, comply with government regulations and customer mandates, and streamline global operations.

To support today’s business processes and goals all corporate data needs to be accessible, reliable, accurate, timely and fit for purpose. Organizations need to know more about what is in their source systems, they need to be able to integrated data from multiple systems into new more productive data-intensive applications, and they need to be able to cleanse and enhance data as well as monitoring and managing the quality of data as it is used in different applications.
(By Tommy Drummond, Vice President Product Marketing Informatica, Data Quality Business Unit)

Selling Your Structured Settlement

Phillip Hatley
Selling a structured settlement is not difficult but does require some research and thought on the part of the seller before committing to the structured selling process. First, we must define a structured settlement. A structured settlement is a legal contract between two parties to compensate one party in the contract a set sum of money paid out in installments over a given period of time. Usually these contracts are formed and agreed upon between the party that is being compensated and insurance companies or other entities that are required to make the payments.

Once the contract or sum is agreed upon, the party that is required to make the payments begins making payments in monthly installments. Often times these payments are made over years requiring the payee to wait years for the total amount. In some cases the monthly income is viewed as favorable by some. In other cases, the total amount in one lump sum may work better for the payee. Often, lump sum payment is not an option for the payee so they are forced to take a monthly installment payment plan over a set period of time.

Selling a structured settlement to an investor or company that specializes in buying notes, or paper, is an option for people that have been awarded structured settlements. In some cases, people that have structured settlements may experience financial difficulty or health issues that require them to liquidate their structured settlement quickly. Loss of a job or other income streams may be lost, prompting these people to sell their structured settlement. Sudden illnesses such as cancer or heart attack may cause long term disability and immediate cash is needed to meet monthly expenses as well as medical bills.

There are other reasons to sell a structured settlement although not as dire as the above reasons. Some people sell their structured settlements to free up cash to take a long dreamed of vacation. Others sell their structured settlements for home improvements or to buy the dream house they have always wanted. The reasons vary with some selling their notes to put their children through college or taking the lump sum cash investing it in other financial instruments to increase their return over time.

It should be noted that when selling a structured settlement, the total amount of the settlement will not be realized. Structured settlement buyers offer to buy these notes at a discount in return for lump sum cash to the payee. The settlement buyer is assuming risk in buying the note with the discount reflecting the amount of risk the buyer must assume. Many risk factors must be considered by the settlement buyer including the amount of the settlement and the financial worthiness of the payor. Companies that make structured settlement payments are not immune to insolvency and bankruptcy, so the buyer must consider these factors before purchasing a structured settlement.

Selling a structured settlement is not difficult and only a process that requires some serious thought and research. Considering your needs and the reason for selling the settlement should be foremost before initiating the process of selling your structured settlement.

5 Tactics To Seize Favorable Probabilities at Forex

As you ponder how to balance your forex portfolio, it is important to map out sure-fire strategies beforehand.

With your plan, you optimize your reward with respect to the expected risk, and tweak probabilities to your favor. Forex strategies must be disciplined and limit risk; simultaneously, it positions you at the most favorable advantage in the market.

A beginner's strategy is the fundamental Moving Away Average, which is draws predictions from technical study over 12 periods, with each period 15 minutes in length. Trading decisions based on the MAA technique considers historical data to arrive at relatively safe predictions.

We use a simple algorithm for MAA. When currency price crosses above the twelfth period, simply move away it is a signal to stop and reverse. In this way a long position will be liquidated and a short position will be established, both using market orders. This system keeps trades constantly active in the market, with either a short position or a long position after the first signal. Risk is minimized.

Intermediate level strategy calls for analysis of support and resistance levels. The market likes to trade above support levels and trade below resistance levels. If either a support or a resistance level is broken, then the market follows through in the direction given. These breakpoints can be determined by analysis of the chart and assessment of where the chart has encountered unbroken support or resistance in times past. Identify these critical points and you can ascertain periods when you plan to open or close a position.

An advanced tactic that many consider exotic is the balloon strategy. The Balloon is an option that balloons, or increases in size when triggers are breached. Take the case of an investor who predicts that the dollar will gain strength against the Euro in the near future and is currently trading at one hundred, the investor will see one hundred ten as having strong resistance, but he also believes it will be broken.

Now, rather than buying straight US dollars at one hundred for the next six months the investor will purchase at “at the money” balloon call with a One Hundred Ten trigger and multiple of two. The investor then acquires a One Hundred Ten call in USD110mm. However if the dollar and Euro ever trade at or above one hundred ten, the 110 call will double to USD 20mm.

A day trader at heart? The Double Bottom is definitely for you. Significant to the short term trader, the double bottoms indicate a possible major change in currency sentiment and indicates a shifting trend. The pattern is used on all times frames, and many compelling intraday and long term bull markets are identified from this setup.

Analysts recognize that double bottoms quickly reflect strong support levels. When prices fail to break support in the down trending markets on more than one occasion we see powerful changes of trend. These reversal signals are revealing. The most common portal where a trader will open on a double bottom trade is upon a maneuver through the high of the two troughs. This high embodies secondary resistance, and when penetrated confirms a price reversal. From this vantage point, stops are placed around the lows of the patterns because a move below lows negates the pattern premise. Easy isn't it?

To round of your arsenal of forex implements, arm yourself with the ichimoku chart. These charts consist of following indicators, which identify support and resistance levels and create trading beacons in a manner that is akin to moving averages. A contrast however between both is that the Ichimoku chart lines swing forward in time, creating vast swathes of support and resistance zones while decreasing the risk of trading false breakouts. They are arrived at with data on trend existence, direction, support and resistance.

The four primary lines include:

• Turning Line = (Highest High + Lowest Low) / 2, for the past nine days

• Standard Line = (Highest High + Lowest Low) / 2, for the past twenty-six days

• Leading Span 1 = (Standard Line + Turning Line) / 2, plotted twenty-six days ahead of today

• Leading Span 2 = (Highest High + Lowest Low) / 2, for the past fifty days, plotted twenty-six days ahead of today's date.

Commit these tactics to memory and bring home Your Gold... When we use the word communicate, we are referring not only to the words one uses to transfer factual information to others, but also to other "messages" that are sent and received.

What might these other messages be? Related to change the leader sends a good number of messages. These are listed below.

The leader communicates:

A) a sense of confidence and control (or lack thereof) to employees.

B)his or her own feelings about the change.

C) the degree to which he/she trusts the abilities of the employees to get through the change.

D) a sense of purpose and commitment (or lack thereof).

E) the degree to which he/she accepts the reactions and feelings of employees.

F) expectations regarding behaviour that is seen as appropriate or inappropriate (ie. rumour-mongering, back-room meetings).

G) the degree to which he/she is "connected to" employees situations and feelings or is "in-touch" with them.

It is clear that if the leader communicates effectively, he or she will be sending messages that decrease resistance, and encourage moving through the change more effectively and positively. The bottom line with all of this is if you screw up communicating with employees, even the smallest changes can result in ugly problems.

There are all kinds of models of communication, some basic and some complex. For our purposes communication can be described as CREATING UNDERSTANDING.

Through words, actions, body language, voice tone, and other processes you send many messages about yourself, the changes, and your organization. This constitutes precisely one-half of the communication process. The second half consists of verifying that the message you intended to send was actually received and interpreted the way you intended. The only way that you can be sure you have created understanding is to listen to the people you are communicating with, and make special effort to encourage them to reflect back to you what they have heard (and what they make of it).

"10 Powerful Networking Tips Using Business Cards"

Whether you are looking for a job or running a business, giving out business cards is crucial to marketing your skills or services. Even as a job seeker, develop the mindset of running the business of YOU, Inc. Business cards speak volumes about who you are, what you offer and how serious you are marketing YOU, Inc. as a business. Oh! So, you have a resume and don't need business cards. Can you carry 10 resumes in your wallet' Do you or can you carry your resume everywhere you go' A church bell ringing lets people know they are open for business. Your business card is your bell. Here are some proven tips using business cards to increase your chances of landing a job or creating a business opportunity.

1. Never leave home without them. Before leaving home, your checklist should be expanded to include business cards, as part of "do I have my wallet/money, house keys, driver's license'" Any 'per chance' meeting is an opportunity to give out a business card. A morning run or a quick trip to the local store could be an opportunity to network. My wife and I always ask each other 'do you have business cards', before leaving the house. Make it a habit to carry business cards.

2. Insert a business card when mailing bill payments. Bills contain advertisements. Why can't you advertise your skills or services the same way' Insert a business card with your payment. You may not think a person in South Dakota who opens your credit card bill payment can help you. Never underestimate the power of networking. A movie, entitled '6 Degrees of Separation' points out we are 6 people away from knowing someone of influence. You could be 6 people away from knowing the President of the United Sates, your favorite movie star or someone who is in a position to hire your skills or services. Each of us knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone etc. Developing this powerful networking attitude will be a fundamental source of continued success.

3. Use proper business card etiquette. Whenever you give a business card, ask for a business card. When given a business card, don't just take it and place it in your pocket. Make the person feel important by looking at their card for a few seconds. You might see something that could be a topic of discussion. Write comments on the card such as date, location and common points of interest. These comments will prove valuable when following up with that person. This also demonstrates a sincere interest in the other person. Then place it in your wallet. This lets them know they reside in a special place with you. "Skill with People" by Les Giblin is a book that expands on this approach. Make people feel important, in order to make yourself important to them.

4. Be generous. Give business cards out to everyone, including family and friends. Don't let vanity stop you from giving out your last business card or giving 2 at a time to each person. I have met many people who have totally missed the purpose of a business card. I once asked a person for a second business card, so I could refer his services. His response was "I only have a few cards left and I need them", as he looked again at his name on the card. Hoarding your business cards only makes your wallet feel full, not your bank account.

5. Ask for referrals. When giving a business card, people feel more comfortable when you ask; 'I would appreciate a referral, if you know anyone that could use my services'. Don't make people feel like they are on the spot. This approach disarms people much better than asking them, 'is your company hiring'' People naturally like to do favors for people. Saying 'could you do me a favor by referring my services to someone'. This always places you in a better position with them. They will feel better about helping you. Give them 2 cards.

6. Maximize every "per chance" meeting. You never know when you might meet someone who can help you. Family or friends social events could produce unexpected encounters with people. Don't discount those events. So you're going to a birthday party for your friend's kid. You never know who you might meet. At a family holiday gathering last year, I met someone that has been instrumental in developing our business this year. Who would have thought this could happen by giving him a simple business card.

7. Place yourself at the right place at the right time. Have you been to a job fair or business conference and been disappointed with the networking results' Turn the tables around. Consider volunteering to help out at the job fair or other types of events. This puts you in a better strategic position for presenting your resume or business card. Company representatives might view you differently, if they know you are willing to go the extra mile in helping them make their presence easier to manage. Get involved by visiting Eventme.com, TheLunchClub.net, Craigslist.com or view the calendar of events for JacobJavitsCenter.com to place yourself in opportunities for giving out your business card. Volunteering for events has been a very successful resource for my business partner and I to expanding our business. Zig Ziglar, one of the most successful sales trainers in the world says "if you help enough people get what they want in life, you will get what you want in life".

8. Use "In Your Face" follow up. Did you ever have a job interview or meeting with a recruiter, potential client or employer and wonder why they never called you back' 'Out of sight, out of mind' is the operative phrase to remember. Today's economic climate dictates you might be competing with 20, 50, 100 or more other people for the same position or contract. It's quite a task for people to keep track of each individual meeting. So it's up to you to give a person a reason to call you back. Immediately after a meeting snail mail a hand written note thanking the person for their time. Insert your business card. Now you're in the driver's seat in standing out from other people. If you get no response, do it again. Patience and persistence pays off.

9. Use promotions to promote YOU, Inc. Newspapers often have stories of people being promoted to high levels in different organizations' This is an opportunity for you. Consider getting some invitation size blank greeting cards. Use the Internet's search capabilities to find out the address of the company's executive offices. Send the blank invitation type card with a hand written note sincerely congratulating a person on their promotion. Insert your business card. For the cost of a 37-cent stamp, you have just made someone's day and may create an impression that makes a person feel compelled to respond back to you. Make it a habit to do this once a week. Remember '6 Degrees of Separation'. You just never know . . . People open invitation type envelops faster than any others.

10. Brand yourself with a slogan. Print a slogan on your business card that answers the question 'Why should I hire you' Or "What makes you different from everyone else'" A catchy phrase or slogan insures people ALWAYS associate a company name with their product or services. People remember even after the commercial is over. That's called branding. Companies pay big bucks to advertising agencies to come up with these lasting slogans. Consider doing the exact same thing on your business card. This is your insurance people remember you, after you meet. Don't just put Hortence Smiley, Accountant on your business card. Add something like "Financial Services With Integrity". A slogan makes all the difference between getting hired or not, because people will remember you long after a meeting.

Happy trails networking . . .
Keywords: marketing, strategy, business, sales, networking, advertising,
